Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of the modernized Japanese version of the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II fighter in 1:48 scale. The package carries the subtitle Phantom Forever 2020, which points to the special markings applied to the machines of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force in the period when the type was completing its long service. The manufacturer Zoukei-Mura runs its Super Wing Series line as technically ambitious kits aimed at a faithful capture of the internal structure. The kit is injection-molded plastic and is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The F-4EJ was the Japanese equivalent of the two-seat multi-role F-4E, built under license. The designation Kai belongs to a later modernization program in which the aircraft were given a new onboard radar, reworked avionics and extended possibilities for the armament carried. Thanks to that the modernized machines stayed in operational service considerably longer than was originally reckoned with and belonged among the last Phantoms operated in the world. In design terms it is a large twin-engine aircraft with the characteristic dihedral of the outer wing panels, an anhedral horizontal tail surface and a two-seat cockpit. At the close of the service selected machines were given commemorative finishes and markings which differ markedly from the ordinary gray service treatment, and it is precisely that which makes the model a rewarding item for a display case.
Zoukei-Mura builds its kits with a structure close to the real construction, which means more subassemblies and more work with the sequence; it pays to build in the order given by the instructions and not to hurry. Finish and paint the cockpit and the internal parts before you close them in; afterwards you will no longer reach them. Mask the large glazing and glue it with glue for clear parts. A commemorative finish tends to have striking areas of color, so apply a light base under them, so that the paint covers properly, and think the order of the layers out in advance. Seat the decals on a gloss base with a softener; on large areas it helps to divide a decal. Finally unify the surface with varnish and keep the weathering sparing, as an aircraft in a commemorative finish tends to be well kept.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
