An injection-molded plastic kit of the F-5E Tiger II light supersonic fighter in 1:48 scale from the Italian brand Italeri. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. For this type the 1:48 scale is a pleasant compromise: the aircraft is small, so the finished model does not take up as much room in a display case as comparable machines, and yet it is big enough to make it worth working on the cockpit, the landing gear and the external stores.
The F-5E Tiger II is an American single-seat fighter with a pair of jet engines, which came about as a simple, inexpensive and easily maintained type intended primarily for export. That is exactly why it entered service in dozens of countries and flew for whole decades. Thanks to its small dimensions, good handling and flight characteristics close to some of the opponents of the day, the F-5 was also widely used in air combat training in the aggressor role. The recognition features of the E version are the enlarged wing leading-edge root extensions and a modified nose compared with the older F-5A.
Finish the cockpit before closing up the fuselage and do not forget to add nose weight - with small fighters that have a nose gear leg, the model easily sits back on its tail. Dry-fit the air intakes and the way they join the fuselage, and deal with any gaps with filler before painting. A variety of finishes is typical of the F-5: from a metal surface through desert and woodland camouflage to the bold schemes of training aggressors. Apply the decals over a gloss varnish and close the scheme with a matte or semi-gloss overcoat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
