This item is not an airplane model. It is an accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Eduard of Obrnice near Most, intended for a plastic kit of the FM-2 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. Sets from the extended range tend to be fuller than the basic variant of the same range, but the actual extent of the package differs from item to item, so check it on the box. The purpose is always the same: to replace or add to the places a kit handles in a simplified way, and to take the model a level higher without making the small parts yourself.
The FM-2 was the last and most numerous production Wildcat. It was built by the Eastern Aircraft division of General Motors, and compared with the original Grumman F4F it was a lightened airframe with a more powerful Wright R-1820 Cyclone radial engine and with a taller vertical tail, which compensated for the stronger torque. The combination of lower weight and greater power made the FM-2 an aircraft tailor-made for the short decks of escort carriers, where it served until the end of the Second World War. In the Fleet Air Arm it flew under the designation Wildcat VI.
Accessories of this type are fitted during the build, not onto a finished model, so prepare them before you close the fuselage. Pick up the small parts with tweezers and work over a light surface, otherwise the first part you drop will disappear into the carpet. Glue the metal parts with cyanoacrylate glue of gel consistency or with a glue meant for photo-etched parts, as ordinary plastic cement does not hold on metal. If you are going to paint a metal part, degrease it first and go over it with a metal primer, otherwise the paint flakes off during handling.
