This injection-molded plastic kit from the Japanese brand Hasegawa in 1:48 scale represents the single-seat Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighter in its A-4 version. The package is devoted to one particular machine, whose designation gave the edition its name.
The Fw 190 was a single-seat all-metal low-wing monoplane with a radial engine, wide-track landing gear and a teardrop canopy with a good view out. Against the fighters of its day with inline engines it differed in a more compact and sturdier fuselage, into which a two-row radial engine with forced cooling was built, with its characteristic circular cowling and cooling fan. The A-4 version belonged to the early part of the A series and brought above all changes in the radio equipment and in the execution of the engine installation; a short antenna mast on the fin tends to be the distinguishing mark. The type was produced in many versions and armament variants throughout its service.
Finish the cockpit before the fuselage is glued together; on a model in 1:48 scale it is clearly in view under the teardrop canopy. The cowling and the cooling fan call for accurate centering, so that the propeller sits on the axis; try the parts dry first. Mottled camouflage is sprayed with an airbrush with a small nozzle, or over a soft mask, so that the transitions are not sharp. The light underside goes on first, and only then the darker upper surfaces. Spray a gloss varnish before the decals and unify the surface with a matte one at the end. Keep the weathering proportionate; heavy wear to the paint looks convincing only in the places where people really walked and reached.
