This is a detail accessory in cast resin, not a kit. The set replaces the pilot's seat in the cockpit of the Mitsubishi J2M3 Raiden model in 1:48 scale and adds a seat harness, which on plastic parts is usually only suggested or missing altogether. The manufacturer is the Czech brand CMK, which has long specialized in resin accessories for aircraft models.

The real subject

The Mitsubishi J2M Raiden was a Japanese interceptor designed for a fast climb to altitude and for attacks on bomber formations. Compared with the carrier fighters of the period it had a bulkier fuselage with a radial engine set behind a lengthened forward cowling, and it put the emphasis on rate of climb and speed rather than on agility. The J2M3 version was among the most widespread. The Allied designation of this type was Jack.

Use and tips

• First wash the part in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release residue comes off.
• Cut the casting block off with a saw or a cutting disc; do not snap it off.
• Sand the resin wet and with your airways protected.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue, that is, with a cyanoacrylate; ordinary cement for plastic does not hold on resin.
• Before gluing, check that the part does not clash with the cockpit sidewalls, and adjust the seating carefully if it does.

For modelers who want to bring out the cockpit with the canopy open and do not want to make the seat and the belts from scratch. Working with resin calls for a little practice, so we recommend the accessory rather to more advanced builders.
