This item is a resin accessory from the Brassin range, not an aircraft kit. It is a weapon store - a model of the Japanese Type 91 aerial torpedo in 1:48 scale, intended to be hung under a plastic model of a torpedo bomber. Cast resin allows sharper edges, a cleaner surface and finer detail on the fins than can be achieved with injection-molded plastic. Sets of this type are used on an aircraft in flight configuration as well as as a separate element in a diorama on a deck or in a store.
The Type 91 was the standard 450 mm aerial torpedo of the Imperial Japanese Navy, used by carrier-based as well as land-based torpedo bombers. Its characteristic feature was the jettisonable wooden stabilizing surfaces fitted to the tail: they provided stability during the flight through the air after release and separated on impact with the water, so as not to disturb the movement of the torpedo underwater. The torpedo went through several stages of development during the war, which differed in the weight of the warhead and in the mechanical solution of the stabilization.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap and remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw, on the long body of the torpedo in small steps, so that the part does not snap; level the sanded surface on flat sandpaper laid on glass. Resin is attached with cyanoacrylate glue. The long shape of the torpedo will mercilessly show every unevenness, so before clear coating go over the surface with a fine abrasive and apply a thin filler primer. When hanging it, watch that the axis of the torpedo is parallel with the axis of the fuselage - seen from the front as well as from above.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model; it is not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
