A set of replacement barrels for a model of the Ki-61-Id Hien fighter in 1:48 scale. Barrels from a kit tend to be thicker than the scale calls for, and their muzzle is blanked off, because a mold cannot reach in with anything but a solid rod. The replacement part solves both: it has a slimmer cross-section and a muzzle you can see into. On a finished model it is a small thing, but one the eye notices before most other modifications.
The Ki-61 Hien was a Japanese fighter of the Second World War. It differed from other Japanese types of the day in its slim, pointed nose and generally elongated shape, so Allied airmen at first mistook it for European machines and gave it the reporting name Tony. The letter in the version designation refers to a later production form that differed from earlier machines among other things in armament.
Cut the original barrels off the model with a sharp blade and level the surface so that the new part sits in line. Cut the excess material off the replacement part a little away from the barrel and sand the rest carefully so that you do not break the thin section. Wash and degrease the part before gluing and before painting. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, which holds regardless of the material of the part. Try the fit dry first and line the axis of the barrel up with the longitudinal axis of the fuselage, because a barrel fitted crooked shows from every angle.
The package holds only the replacement barrels. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
