This is NOT an airplane model but a set of die-cut self-adhesive masks from New Ware in 1:48 scale. The masks are cut from kabuki tape (Japanese washi paper with an adhesive layer) and serve for accurate masking while painting a plastic kit of the MiG-31 B/BS interceptor. The parts are pre-cut to fit a particular model, so cutting the frames out with a knife is no longer needed.
The MiG-31 in the B and BS versions is a two-seat heavy long-range interceptor developed from the design of the MiG-25. The B version was fitted with a retractable probe for in-flight refueling, while the BS version did not have one. The aircraft was designed to intercept and destroy air targets at high altitude as well as at low level over a vast area.
The EXPERT level is among the most complete variants. Besides the external masking of the glazed cockpit it usually also includes masks for the inner side of the glazing, colored borders for the frames (imitating the seals), masks for the position and landing lights and masks for the wheel hubs. It therefore makes it possible to mask the cockpit from both sides and with a different color for the frames. The masks are stuck onto the clear parts so that they follow the curvature, and after spraying with an airbrush they are removed gently without any adhesive residue.
An accessory masking set, not a standalone model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
