An add-on resin set for modelers building the Japanese supersonic Mitsubishi machines in 1:48 scale. The set replaces the jet engine exhaust nozzles supplied in a kit. Because the T-2 trainer and the F-1 attack aircraft derived from it share practically the same airframe and powerplants, one set is usable for both versions.
In 1:48 scale the rear of the airframe is already big enough for every simplified surface to show on it. The plastic nozzles from a box tend to be short, with a thick trailing edge and no texture inside. A resin casting allows a thin wall, a deeper duct and suggested nozzle petals, so the tail of the model stops looking like a flat cap. The difference tells above all on a model that stands in a display case where it can be seen from behind.
Wash the castings in warm soapy water so that no mold release agent is left on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surface and protect your airways while sanding. Remove the original nozzles from the kit and dry-fit the new set first; any difference in diameter can be tuned from the inside with a circular sanding attachment. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. Lay down a primer before painting, because resin is smooth. The inside of a nozzle looks good in a dark metal shade with a sooty cast, and the outer surface can be warmed up with a soft transition of brown, copper and blue-violet. Finally we recommend a light flat clear coat so that the metal shades do not read like glossy foil.
This is an add-on resin set, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
