In this item Reskit offers a resin replacement for the wheels of a model of the North American T-28 Trojan trainer in the C and D versions. The set is intended for the naval type of wheel, which matters, because the same line also includes an item for land-based service. On a finished model the wheel is one of the few parts the viewer studies from close up, and the difference between a plastic part with a mold seam and a clean resin casting is visible at once.
The T-28C was the naval training form of the Trojan modified for carrier landing training, while the T-28D came about as an armed conversion intended for light combat and reconnaissance duties in service abroad. Both versions come from the common basis of a piston-engined trainer with a radial engine and a roomy tandem cockpit, but they differ in equipment, which on a model can be matched by the corresponding landing gear details.
First be clear about whether you are building a machine with the naval or the land-based type of wheel, because the manufacturer offers both variants separately. Cut the castings off with a fine-toothed saw and level the bearing surface for the axle on abrasive paper laid on a flat support. Wash the set in lukewarm soapy water, let it dry thoroughly and spray it with primer, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth resin. Glue it with cyanoacrylate glue and work in small drops, because any excess is hard to remove from the engraved tread pattern of the tire. Leave the tire matte; the hub may have a slightly higher sheen, which will separate the two surfaces visually.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
