This resin set from Quickboost, made by Aires, brings faithfully cast ejection seats with cast-in seat belts for a model of the American Grumman OV-1 Mohawk reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing both the simplified seats and the separate belts with finished castings. With the canopy removed, the side-by-side cockpit gains a markedly more accurate look.
The Grumman OV-1 Mohawk was an American twin-engine turboprop aircraft for battlefield reconnaissance and observation, operated by the US Army. The crew of two sat side by side on ejection seats that could save them even at low speeds. Among other places, the Mohawk served in Vietnam, in Central and South America and during Operation Desert Storm.
First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue from the mold. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the seats with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement. The cast belts come into their own once painted and lightly brought out with a wash.
The set is supplied as a resin part, unassembled and unpainted. It is not an airplane model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Glue, paints and the kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
