A resin exhaust set for the American Bell P-39 Airacobra fighter in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer CMK. According to the name it is six fishtail-type exhaust stubs, and the set is cut for the kits from Hasegawa and from Eduard. The castings have thinner walls and a sharper shape at the end than the plastic parts, which shows immediately on the side of the fuselage.
The Bell P-39 Airacobra had an unusual layout: the Allison V12 engine lay behind the pilot and drove the propeller through a long shaft running under the cockpit floor. The freed-up nose made it possible to place heavy gun armament and a nosewheel landing gear there, still unusual at the time. The exhausts projected on the sides of the fuselage behind the cockpit and were therefore permanently in view.
Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces. Paint the exhausts separately before gluing them in: a dark brown base, rusty and metallic shades on the edges with a dry brush, and the outlets darkened. Apply the smoke staining behind the exhausts with an airbrush using heavily thinned paint, and rather lightly, because an overdone streak is the most common mistake on this type.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace a kit. Paints, glue and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
