Photo-etched metal accessories in 1:48 scale for a model of the P-47D-30 Thunderbolt fighter. The thin metal elements add details that injection-molded plastic only hints at in this scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of the Second World War, and its rugged airframe took hard treatment at low altitude. The P-47D-30 version falls in the late part of the D series, which was built with a bubble canopy and gave the pilot all-round vision. Aircraft of this series flew as escort fighters and as fighter-bombers against ground targets.
The set brings photo-etched metal parts in 1:48 scale intended for detailing a P-47D-30 model. Etch delivers a thin edge, a tiny face or a mesh in a way injection-molded plastic cannot manage in this scale. The list of parts and the places they belong on the model are given in the manufacturer's instructions enclosed with the set.
Separate the elements with a sharp blade on a hard surface a little way from the part and sand the rest of the tab away. Make the bends in a photo-etch bender or between the jaws of flat tweezers, so that the edge stays straight. Cement for polystyrene does not hold on metal: use cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), or epoxy on larger surfaces. Wash and degrease the surfaces before painting and apply a thin coat of primer, or the paint will hold badly on smooth metal.
The set is aimed at a modeler who already builds with experience and wants to take a model further than the contents of the box allow. Working with etch calls for tweezers, a sharp blade and a steady hand. The contents of the delivery follow the manufacturer's data; a kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
