Masking set for the Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in 1:48 scale. One piece masking the cockpit glazing from outside and one set of stencils for the national insignia are enclosed.
Responsibility details are not available.
For a single-engine fighter the Thunderbolt was a giant. A radial engine over a meter and a quarter across, eight heavy machine guns divided between the wings and an empty weight that some twin-engine machines of the day did not reach. In 1:48 that gives a model with unusually expansive fuselage sides, and therefore with unusually large national insignia as well.
The scope of the set. This item masks the cockpit canopy from the outer side and encloses one set of insignia stencils. That is less than sets for other types tend to have, and it is worth knowing in advance: the inner face of the frames will be touched in with a brush.
Who it is enough for even so. For anyone gluing the cockpit closed, and with the Jug plenty of builders do that, because the sliding teardrop of the late machines looks entirely natural closed. A large insignia is meanwhile among the hardest things to cut by hand that you will meet on a model: a circle over a centimeter across cannot be cut by eye and its asymmetry is visible across the whole table.
Who it is not for. For a builder who wants the canopy slid back and the frames perfect from inside as well. They will reach for a set with masking on both faces.
In practice. Lay the large circular stencil from the center toward the edges and press the air out with your thumb through a piece of paper. If you lay it on all at once, a bubble stays in the middle and during spraying it lifts the edge, so the paint bleeds into the inside of the circle.
