A photo-etched metal set of two Parabellum LMG 14/17 machine guns in 1:32 scale for builds of First World War aircraft. It replaces coarser injection-molded weapons with finer work.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Parabellum LMG 14/17 was a German aircraft machine gun of the First World War period. Two-seat aircraft carried it as the observer's flexible weapon, and it was used on airships as well. The 14/17 version is told from the earlier type by its slimmer perforated barrel jacket. It is precisely the jacket, the sights and the mount that tend to be coarsest on injection-molded parts, and in 1:32 scale that is easy to see.
The package brings two examples of this machine gun in 1:32 scale. They are metal components produced by photo-etching. How many parts go into one machine gun and in what order they are assembled is shown in the manufacturer's instructions.
Photo-etched parts are flat and only take their shape once they are bent along the marked lines. An etch bender helps, or two straight jaws or a metal rule. Separate them from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with cutters, which ripple the edge. Super glue holds the joints; more experienced modelers solder them. The most delicate part is forming the rounded sections: go slowly and keep checking that the shape stays even along the whole length. Degrease the parts before painting and lay down a primer intended for metal, otherwise the coat will rub off during further handling.
The set suits modelers who build First World War aircraft in the large scales and want the observer's open cockpit without compromise. Two examples will cover even an aircraft with a twin weapon, or serve as a spare in case of damage while bending. This is an add-on set, not a whole model. Paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
