An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the later 1942 version with the heavy cast turret, in 1:48 scale from Hobby Boss. The model captures the modernized KV configuration with a massive cast turret and a longer 76.2 mm gun. The KV-1 went through a whole series of modifications during the war. The 1942 version received a heavy cast turret, which replaced the older welded structure, simplified production and improved protection. The tank kept its thick armor and the V-2 diesel engine, but it was still heavy and demanding on the drivetrain. Even so it remained one of the toughest vehicles on the Eastern Front and paved the way for the later IS series of tanks.
Assemble and paint the running gear with its characteristic wheels before you close the hull. The cast turret has a rougher cast surface that can be suggested with putty texture. Glue with liquid cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. After the protective green, apply a gloss coat under the decals and complete the weathering with dark washes and pigments for mud effects on the wide tracks.
