Photo-etched Eduard 1:48 Sea King HU.5 cargo STEEL seat belts for the seats in the cargo compartment of the rescue version of the Sea King. An accessory for a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is not a photo-etched set for the whole interior but a narrowly aimed accessory: seat belts for the seats in the cargo and transport compartment of the HU.5 version. The STEEL designation points to the belts being etched from steel rather than from softer brass. Steel can be bent into a naturally slack shape and holds it, so the belt does not look like a flat strip of tin but like a strap hanging loosely across the seat cushion. It is an accessory for a helicopter kit in 1:48 scale, not a model in its own right.
The Sea King HU.5 came about by converting the antisubmarine machines of the Royal Navy into a general purpose version. Instead of the sonar and the operator station it received a clear cabin usable for rescue flights over the sea and for carrying people and cargo. It is in that cabin that the folding seats with their straps sit, and it is those the set targets. On a model with the sliding doors open the cargo compartment is one of the first places the viewer looks, and belts rendered in plastic or suggested by a decal look flat there.
Cut the steel belts out with a scalpel and remember right away which part goes where, because once out of the fret the small pieces are easily mixed up. Bend the buckles and clasps with fine-tipped tweezers and shape the straps over the round handle of a brush so that they take on a soft sag. Glue with super glue in minute drops. Finish the seats before you close the cabin, because afterwards you cannot reach them. Degrease the metal surfaces before painting and lay on a primer.
