1:48 Spitfire Mk. Vc undercarriage legs BRONZE are bronze landing gear legs for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vc in 1:48 scale. A replacement for the plastic parts from a kit, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
On a finished model the landing gear legs carry all the weight, and sooner or later that tells on plastic parts — they bend, or they crack during handling. A bronze casting is rigid, the model stands straight on it even after a long time on a shelf, and the surface detail is sharper than an injection mold can manage. The set is an accessory for a plastic model of the Spitfire Mk. Vc in 1:48 scale; the kit, glue and paints are not in the package. The package contents are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging of the set.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. Vc differed from the other variants of the V series in its universal wing, which allowed various armament fits including four 20 mm cannon. The landing gear of the Spitfire was marked out by a narrow track and by retracting outward into the wing; at full load it was a heavily stressed part of the structure. On a model the landing gear is clearly visible and its geometry markedly affects the overall impression.
Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer intended for metal surfaces — otherwise the paint would not hold on smooth bronze. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue or with two-part epoxy; cement for plastic will not join metal. Try the legs dry so that the forward rake sits right, and fit them only once the landing gear bays are painted. Bring the detail out with a dark wash into the recesses; the polished surface of the oleo can be suggested with a silver pencil or with a metallic paint applied dry.
The set is an accessory for a plastic model, not a kit in its own right. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
