An item from the range that MN-hobby devotes to the Czechoslovak Gendarmerie. The year 1937 refers to the period just before the mobilization, when the force already had its settled and well documented appearance. In the 1:48 format it is an addition for scenes that are not meant to compete with large dioramas but are meant to have a lively center.
In interwar Czechoslovakia the gendarmerie was an independent force with its own system of ranks, and strazmistr was among the rank-and-file ones in it. The second half of the 1930s is the period from which the most pictorial material has survived for the force, so it is easy to look up a reference and choose a color solution according to it.
Lay the uniform down in two steps: a covering base and then a thin dark application that runs into the folds on its own. Draw the highlights along the edges with a dry brush, but lightly, otherwise the cloth turns into metal. In this format the face is taken care of by a basic tone, a dark eye line and a faint touch of pink. Set the figure at the edge of a scene rather than in the middle; it will catch the eye there more.
What tells most on the result is the thinning of the paint; a thick coat clogs the fine shapes.
