This item is not a kit of an aircraft but a detail resin set from the maker Aires which you build into a plastic model of the two-seat Starfighter in 1:48 scale. With injection-molded kits the wheel bays belong among the places where the most is saved - they tend to be shallow and smooth. The casting replaces them with an insert with interior structure, stiffeners and lines, that is with detail that is permanently in view on a model with the landing gear extended.
The Lockheed F-104 Starfighter was a supersonic fighter with a very thin trapezoidal wing of small area and with the horizontal tail mounted high on the vertical tail. It was powered by a General Electric J79 jet engine with an afterburner. The designation TF-104 belongs to the two-seat trainer version with a lengthened cockpit for two pilots in tandem, which a number of European users of the type used for training. Thanks to its layout and its speed performance the Starfighter became one of the most characteristic aircraft of its generation.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent because of the residue of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc and level the surface by wet sanding and with breathing protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, that is super glue. The bays belong in the model before you join the fuselage, so try them dry and thin the plastic around them as needed. Painting is simpler away from the model - the base with an airbrush, a dark wash into the recesses, the edges emphasized with a dry brush. Mask the bays before spraying the exterior coat.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
