An injection-molded plastic kit of the Tiger I heavy tank in the early production series form. What sets this release apart is the complete interior, that is a well worked-out inside of the hull and the turret, which is not common in 1:48 scale. The build therefore runs from the inside out: first the equipment of the fighting compartment and the power pack come about, and only then is the hull closed up. The number of parts, the extent of the decal schemes and the make-up of the package are given in the instructions enclosed with the kit. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Tiger I was a German heavy tank of the Second World War with an 88 mm gun. What is characteristic of it is the boxy hull welded from flat armor plates without pronounced slopes, the roomy turret and the interleaved road wheels on torsion bars. The early production series differ from later machines in a range of recognizable details, among them the design of the commander's cupola, the arrangement of the exhausts and of the auxiliary equipment on the hull, and the solution for filtering the intake air. It is precisely these features that decide which series a model stands for, and it is good to respect them during the build and the painting.
Finish the interior, painting and weathering included, before you close the hull up. It pays to try as you go how much of the inside will be in view once the hatches are shut and to plan the effort accordingly. Glue and paint the running gear with its interleaved wheels separately, or the inner wheels will be out of reach later. Use liquid cement on the plastic, which capillary action draws into the joint. Apply primer before painting, cover with an airbrush in thin coats and lay a gloss base under the decals. Build the weathering up by stages: a dark wash into the engraved panel lines, a dry brush on the edges, pigments on the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
