A resin figure set in 1:35 scale from the maker CMK. According to the name it contains two figures, and a pair that differs from one another in their very dress: one figure has loose civilian clothing, the other a proper military uniform with gear. It is precisely this contrast that makes the set a rewarding scene at a checkpoint or at a vehicle, where two identically dressed figures side by side would come across as uninteresting.

The casting and preparing it

Both bodies come on casting blocks of their own. Before anything else, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface, otherwise the base color will not hold. Cut the blocks off with a fine-toothed saw and sand the remainder down. On the loose clothing watch out for the lower hem of the cloth, where the parting line often runs across the folds: it pays to scrape it off with the edge of a scalpel drawn along the direction of the fold, because sanding easily flattens the raised ripple. Sand wet and without inhaling the dust. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue; reinforce the joints of larger parts with a wire pin.

Painting two different fabrics

Loose flowing clothing and a close-fitting uniform are painted differently. On loose cloth a pronounced contrast works: the base, a rich glaze into the deep folds and a bright highlight on the crests of the ripples, because that is what creates the impression of a soft fabric. A uniform, on the other hand, will take only mild grading, otherwise it looks like crumpled paper; with it, therefore, work with a thin glaze and a fine dry brush on the edges of the pockets, belt and straps. Build the skin of the two figures differently, as every face has a different undertone and a different degree of tan, and two identical skin tones in a set of two figures betray haste at once. In 1:35 it is enough to suggest the eyes with a dark line under a magnifier. Finally even the pair out with matte clear coat and the same dusty tint from the ankles up, so that both figures belong to one scene.
