A resin accessory in 1:72 scale. It is not an airplane kit but the ladder that is run up for the pilot to board the cockpit. In a small scale an accessory like this has an unexpectedly large effect: a model that otherwise sits alone in a display case looks, thanks to it, like a machine between flights that is being worked on.
Wash the parts first in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that the remains of mold release agent disappear — paint will not hold on a greasy surface. Cut the casting blocks off with a thin saw or a cutting disc; never break them off, as in 1:72 scale the rungs are so delicate that a pull in the wrong direction will snap the whole part. Then level the cut with a file or sanding paper, ideally wet and with respiratory protection. The joints are made with cyanoacrylate glue; cement for plastic will not join resin. Small parts are well held in tweezers with a soft grip or on a stick with a drop of adhesive putty.
A primer coat is essential with resin — it evens the surface out and brings out any bubbles, which are better dealt with before the final coat. Then supplement the base shade with a thin wash in the seams, a light dry brush on the edges and a dust shade on the lower part. Before fixing it, stand the ladder by the model dry and try where it naturally rests against the edge of the cockpit and stands square to the base.
