A photo-etched set for a model of the Vought F4U-1A Corsair in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts replace the places where a plastic molding is inevitably thicker.
Responsibility details are not available.
Photo-etch is thin sheet metal with an etched outline and surface relief. Its main advantage is thickness: where a plastic part has a noticeable heft for manufacturing reasons, photo-etch gives a genuinely thin edge and a fine texture. On a model this shows above all in the places the eye goes to first. This set is listed for the Vought F4U-1A Corsair in 1:48 scale, that is for one of the icons of Second World War naval aviation.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not with scissors, which ripple the metal. Level off the remains of the tab with a fine file. Make the folds in a bender or at least between two steel rules, so that the edge is crisp and in one line. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, of which a really small amount applied with the tip of a wire is enough; a surplus runs out and shows once dry. Always dry-fit a finished part first.
Metal is smooth and paint holds on it poorly by itself, so degrease the parts before painting and use a primer intended for metal. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the fine relief, which is the main virtue of photo-etch, does not disappear. The extent of the set and the position of the individual parts are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The model of the aircraft, paints, glue and a bender are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
