An unassembled and unpainted plastic kit in 1:144 scale. This version is built on the theme of a captured aircraft, that is a machine taken over and re-marked by another side. Given that the subject never came into being, the theme is hypothetical: the model reconstructs a design study, and the finish is a modeler's construction, not evidence of a real event.
At the end of the Second World War Daimler-Benz worked up a series of lettered aircraft designs. Design F never got beyond the stage of a paper study; it was neither built nor flown, and no verified performance figures exist for it. The modeling treatment therefore proceeds from period drawings and their later reconstructions. Such subjects are built in modeling as what-if projects and tend to be rewarding precisely for the variety of their finishes.
A captured-aircraft finish gives room for interesting work with both brush and airbrush, but it is demanding on cleanliness. First finish the surface: fill and sand the joints, because in 1:144 scale every unevenness shows. A good approach is to spray the basic scheme, let it cure and only then use masking tape to create the oversprayed patches where the markings were painted over. Spray the transitions with thinned paint at low pressure so that no hard edges appear. Apply the decals onto a gloss coat and finally even the surface out with a matte coat, adding restrained weathering if you wish.
