Photo-etched metal parts for detailing the plastic model of the German Pz.Kpfw. II light tank in the Ausf. A, B and C versions, in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the tank but an aftermarket accessory that is used on a model you have already bought. Light tanks have particularly thankless detail in a small scale: the fenders, the tools, the loops, the grilles and the covers are small and come out too thick in plastic. A thin metal sheet replaces them in such a way that the model gains a silhouette believable for the scale.
The Pz.Kpfw. II was a German light tank, originally intended as a stopgap type for training, which however became one of the most numerous German tanks at the beginning of the Second World War. It was armed with a 20 mm automatic cannon and a machine gun, and the crew consisted of three men. The Ausf. A, B and C versions formed a single development group and differed among other things in details of the running gear, in the vision ports and in the thickness of the frontal armor. They were committed in the Polish and French campaigns and later mainly in the reconnaissance role.
With a light tank you plan ahead: photo-etched fenders and covers are fitted before the hull is closed up and the running gear glued on, or you will not reach them. Separate the parts with a scalpel, level the burrs with a fine file and run the bends along the etched line. Use super glue in a minimal amount for gluing. Before painting, degrease the metal with spirit and spray a primer. The gray scheme of the early period is well brought to life by lightening the upper surfaces slightly and a dark wash into the corners; go easy on mud and dust, as on a light vehicle they quickly cover over precisely the details for which the photo-etch is bought.
This is an accessory set, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
