A set of 3D printed parts in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for a plastic kit of the Zlin Z-126 or Z-226 trainer aircraft. It is not a kit but an accessory that changes one particular place on the model: the wheeled landing gear is replaced by skis for operation from a snow-covered surface. That is exactly what sets this item apart from the other accessories for the same aircraft, which are aimed at the cockpit or at the airframe. The detail of the 3D printing is very fine, the parts have sharp edges and a clean surface with no flash, but the material is more brittle than injection-molded plastic, so handle them with care.
The Zlin Z-126 and Z-226 belong to the family of all-metal Trener training and aerobatic aircraft of Czech design, which were built in the postwar decades and were used for basic as well as advanced training, towing gliders and aerobatics. The aircraft, with fixed landing gear and a low-set wing, was operated all year round at flying clubs, and in the winter season machines of this category used skis instead of wheels, so that they could take off from snow-covered grass surfaces.
Cut the parts off their supports with a saw or a very sharp scalpel, and never break them off. Clean the cuts up with a file and fine abrasive paper. Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and let them dry thoroughly, as there tend to be remains from the printing on the surface. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because modeling cement for plastic will not join this material. A basic primer is a necessity with 3D printing. During the build, decide in advance whether you will build the model in its winter form, because once the plastic wheels are cut off there is no way back. A model with skis looks best on a snow-covered display base, where you can see the skis touching the surface over their whole area.
It is an accessory for a kit, not a model in its own right. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
