The set from Fujimi presents the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano in 1:700 reduction. The name designates the goods as a special edition and mentions etched components, with which the thinnest elements of the deck equipment can be replaced.
The Shinano came about by conversion of a laid-down hull originally intended for a large battleship. The result was a carrier vessel of exceptional dimensions, which in its size surpassed everything that sailed at the time and held that distinction for long after the war. She was taken into service at the close of 1944 and an American submarine sank her only a few days later, before she managed to intervene in the fighting. Her fate is among the best-known naval stories of the end of the war.
