Dark Green from the Water-Thinnable Line

Dark green shades are among the most widely used camouflage colors of all, appearing on both aircraft and ground vehicles across armies. This variant comes from the water-thinnable line, so working with it does not demand ventilation as strict as with lacquer paints, and the airbrush cleans more easily.

Paint properties

The consistency is set directly for an airbrush, so no thinner adjustment is needed. Give the contents a light stir — the pigment settles at the bottom. The dried coat withstands masking tape as well as subsequent washes and oil techniques.

Working with dark green

• Dark shades swallow detail, so it pays to modulate them with a lightened tone
• Run a nearly dry brush with a lighter tone over edges and rivets
• A wash needs a noticeably darker tone, otherwise it won't show
• Do not mix with lacquer lines — the binders do not get along

For a believable look, it pays not to leave the area flat and uniform. Lighten the shade and overspray the centers of panels or the upper surfaces of a turret, then add wear and dust only after that.

• Crates, jerrycans, and gear in a diorama
• A base under lighter green shades during modulation

Water-thinnable lines have the advantage over lacquer ones that you can work with them even where thorough ventilation is not possible. In exchange, the dried film is somewhat less durable, so peel off masking tape more carefully.
