The Mitsubishi F-2 is a Japanese single-engine combat aircraft which came about on the basis of the American F-16 and was markedly reworked for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It has a larger lifting surface with a high proportion of composites, a longer nose for its own radar, and it is built above all for coastal defense, that is for attacks against surface targets. The F-2A version is single-seat; the two-seat version carries the designation F-2B. Despite the evident kinship with the aircraft it is based on, it looks more massive, and seen from above the difference in the wing is obvious at first glance.
This is a plastic kit in 1:72, that is in the size in which a whole row of machines can be built side by side while the shape of the airframe and the stores under the wing are still visible on the model. The color version is carried in the name under the designation Kei Nagase and 19th Task Force Aces. The number of parts, the contents of the decal sheet and any underwing stores are stated by the manufacturer in the instructions.
Start with the cockpit, because once the glazing is glued on you will not get into it any more. Mask the canopy framing before spraying, not after the paint has dried. Paint the landing gear bays and the insides of the doors before you glue the whole thing together. On single-color versions it pays to suggest the panel lines only lightly with a glaze, so that the model does not look over-drawn. Apply the decals over a gloss base and spray a matte varnish over them once they have dried.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Paints, glue and putty are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
