A hexagon bolt head with a washer 1.2 mm across, recommended for 1:48 and 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A size of 1.2 millimeters aims at places where a joint is meant to become a visible part of the surface. On trucks, tractor units, trailers, cranes and industrial machinery, bolts with washers hold frames, feet, gearbox covers and the mountings of bodies, and they tend to be so large that even the wrench they are undone with can be made out.
A washer spreads the pressure of the head over an area, and on a model it serves a similar purpose: it widens the base and creates a second level of shadow. Without it the head sits on the surface like a hexagon stuck on; with it, it looks like a joint passing through the material. The difference is most apparent on light colors, where the rest of the relief recedes.
The range given in the name covers both 1:48 and 1:35. In the smaller of the two it suits genuinely massive joints, and in the larger the ordinary bolted joints of a body and a superstructure. It also comes into its own on dioramas where you are building machinery and equipment outside military use: presses, pumps or gate runners.
First mark the position on the surface, drill shallowly and set the part into a drop of glue with tweezers. Pay attention to the rotation of the hexagon: real heads are not all in one alignment, and a slight turn between neighboring pieces will help the result. Once dry, pick the joints out with a dark glaze, which will settle around the washer. Try the shade out to one side on an offcut first.
