Masks for the glazing of the Bell AH-1G Cobra attack helicopter in 1:32 scale. Two sheets cover the cockpit from the inside and the outside; the set is intended for the early rendition.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cockpit of the Cobra is narrow and its glazing is divided by thin frames, which cannot be traced cleanly by masking by hand. The set contains masks for the inside and the outside and is cut for the early AH-1G rendition, not for the later form with different parts.
The AH-1G was the first production helicopter designed outright as a combat one. It came about on the dynamic components of the proven Huey, but received a fuselage only a little over a meter wide, a pair of seats one behind the other and a turret with armament under the nose. In Vietnam it escorted assault machines and its narrow silhouette made aiming from the ground harder. The early examples still carried simpler equipment and different mounts for rocket pods, so they are distinguished from the later machines at first glance.
The inner masks are laid on before closing the fuselage, so that the frames take the shade of the interior. The translucency of the tape allows you to aim at a frame even where a projection covers it. The outer parts come in turn only with the final finish of the airframe. The angular reveals and the flat front plate call for calm and sharp tweezers, because every shift of a tenth of a millimeter is visible on the finished model. Remnants of adhesive after removal can be taken off with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol.
