An Artwox Model wooden deck, 1:600 scale, for a smaller model of the German battleship Bismarck. It creates a visible grain of planks even on a small model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory from the workshop of Artwox Model is prepared for a model of the German battleship Bismarck in the smaller 1:600 scale. It is precisely on smaller models that deck covering can make the biggest difference, because the viewer's eye travels across the surface and smooth plastic gives away at once that it is a molding.
The fate of the largest German battleship was sealed by a single hit. A torpedo dropped from a Royal Navy carrier aircraft jammed her rudders and the ship, until then fast and elusive, began to circle toward the enemy. On the morning of 27 May 1941 British forces surrounded her and after a gunnery exchange she disappeared beneath the surface. Of a crew numbering over two thousand men, barely a hundred were saved. The wreck lay undiscovered until 1989, when an American expedition found it at a depth of about four and a half kilometers.
In 1:600 the tolerances are unforgiving, so check the position before you join anything permanently. Carry the small pieces on the tip of tweezers and keep your fingers away. Choose heavily thinned paints for toning: a thick coat would flood the grain of the planks in this scale. Protect the finished surface with a matte clear coat.
