VMS No-Peel Primer PANZER GREY No.4 — dark gray primer

The primer from VMS in the No-Peel range is an acrylic, water-thinnable product for preparing the surface of a model before painting. The name no-peel sums up the main strength of the range: the film bonds firmly to the substrate and does not peel off even when masking tape is lifted. Its adhesion stands comparison with solvent-based primers, but without their smell and aggressiveness. It grips plastic, resin, 3D-printed parts and metal.

The PANZER GREY No.4 shade is a dark gray in the spirit of the classic German tank color (Panzergrau). It suits everywhere a dark paint is going on top — under the dark shades of military vehicles it keeps their saturation and saves coats. Its second use is for shading: a dark base sprayed over the whole surface serves as an underlayer for pre-shading and modulation, where a lighter color is applied from above only on the raised areas and the dark base is left showing through in the recesses. The model gains depth before weathering even starts.

Use

• The product comes thinned by the manufacturer to a viscosity for direct airbrushing — no thinning is needed. The manufacturer gives the airbrush as the recommended technique.
• Recommended airbrush nozzles 0.2–0.4 mm, working pressure roughly 20–40 PSI. A finer nozzle suits shading, a coarser one quick coverage of a hull.
• Spray in thin coats. The fine binder gives a thin film that does not clog rivets, welds or the texture of a cast surface.
• As a pre-shading coat: spray it over the whole surface and modulate from above with a lighter shade, leaving the recesses dark.
• The airbrush and the tools clean up with plain water.

For builders of military vehicles and for everyone working with dark shades or building up paint by modulation and pre-shading. It also earns its place on figures and on resin or 3D-printed kits, where a dark, well-adhering base that survives masking is needed.
