A set of AGM-154 JSOW glide bombs in 1:48 scale for models of the F/A-18 and the F-16. A cast body with a rounded nose, a deployable wing and attachment points corresponding to American naval practice.
Responsibility details are not available.
The AGM-154 JSOW belongs among glide bombs, that is munitions with no engine of their own, which after release deploy a wing and reach a target tens of kilometers away. It came about in the 1990s as a joint program of the navy and the air force, and its purpose was to get the attacking aircraft out of the reach of the anti-aircraft defenses. The A version dispenses submunitions, while the C version carries a unitary penetrating warhead. The JSOW was first used in combat over Iraq and since then a number of foreign users have taken it over as well.
The moldings capture the angular cross section of the body, the rounded nose with the cover of the sensor and the surfaces that on the real subject fold into the outline of the bomb. The set is built for American tactical aircraft, so the spacing of the attachments corresponds to the common triple and twin ejector racks.
Armament tends to be the first thing the large makers economize on: in the box one finds a few simplified shapes with no sharp edges. A short run goes the opposite way, because the accessory is its main product, not an appendix. This Korean maker keeps just under fifty sets for 1:48 scale in its range and devotes a number of them precisely to stores, ejection seats and engine nozzles.
Before gluing it is advisable to degrease the moldings and to check the seating on the rack.
