1:700 20mm Oerlikon hydraulic mount gun from Metallic Details is a resin set of a 20 mm anti-aircraft cannon on a hydraulically operated mount in 1:700 scale. It is fitted onto the decks of ship models and does not include the ship model itself.

A resin set of shipboard anti-aircraft armament for models in 1:700 scale. Compared with the ordinary fixed mount, this is the version with hydraulic drive, which differs from the other weapons on deck in the shape of the pedestal and in the outline of the gunner's seat, and in 1:700 scale a plastic kit usually does not tell that difference apart. The castings keep a thin barrel and legible small features of the mount. The set is an accessory, not a model of a ship.
In the Second World War the Oerlikon automatic cannon of 20 mm caliber was one of the most widespread light anti-aircraft weapons on Allied ships. The weak point of hand-traversed mounts was the speed at which the crew managed to follow a target: the weapon was traversed and the elevation changed by the strength of the gunner leaning into shoulder rests. The version with hydraulic drive took that work over, so the crew could lead the weapon more smoothly after faster targets. The cannons stood individually in gun positions on the sides of the deck, around the superstructures and on the bridge wings, usually with ammunition in lockers at hand.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent. The castings are minute in this scale, so separate them from the casting blocks with a sharp knife or a fine saw over a surface, hold them with tweezers and sand the traces of the cut only lightly; do not inhale the dust and sand wet. The most comfortable way is to spray the primer and the base shade while the parts are still on the carrier and to separate the individual weapons only when fitting them. The deck and the gun positions are painted before the weapons. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue in a drop applied with a pin, so that the surplus does not run into the surroundings. A dark metallic shade suits the barrels, and a gentle wash and a restrained dry brush suit the whole, so that the small shapes do not vanish.
This is an add-on set, not a model of a ship. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
