Injection-molded plastic model of the German battleship Tirpitz as she was in 1944, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter. With the enclosed parts the hull can be built either as a full hull with a stand or as a waterline version. The box contains plastic sprues with finely engraved decks and sheets of decals. The exact parts count and the number of marking schemes are given in the instructions in the box.
Tirpitz was the sister ship of Bismarck and the second unit of the Bismarck class of the Kriegsmarine, carrying a main armament of 380 mm. Unlike Bismarck she spent most of her career in the Norwegian fjords, from where, as a standing threat, she tied down considerable Allied forces. She was repeatedly the target of air and underwater attacks, and in November 1944 British bombers sank her with heavy bombs. Her state in 1944 captures the ship with her later anti-aircraft armament.
Decide in advance between the full hull and the waterline version — a waterline model comes into its own on a water base, a full hull on the enclosed stand. Glue the small superstructure and turret parts with thin modeling cement for plastic. Adding photo-etched railings and antennas raises the realism (they are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise). Apply a primer, spray the camouflage scheme with an airbrush in thin coats and pick out the decks and the recesses with dark washes.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
