Artwox Model wooden deck for the Japanese battleship Fuso as of 1941, 1:700 scale is an accessory for the Fujimi 401171 kit, not a model on its own.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds a thin wooden veneer with pre-printed deck planking and a self-adhesive backing. It goes onto the plastic deck of the Fujimi 401171 kit and replaces engraved plastic with real wood. The year in the name points to the period appearance of the ship the deck is cut for: on older battleships the layout of the superstructures and the shape of the deck differ from one year to the next.
The hardest spot is always the bow. The deck narrows there into a curve and the veneer tends to lift along the outer edge. It helps to peel the film off in a narrow strip only, seat the veneer along the axis of the ship first and press it toward the sides gradually afterwards. If the veneer does not sit down, try softening it slightly over steam or with warm air; wood takes shape readily, it just must not be overheated.
Trim the overhang with a fresh, genuinely sharp blade run along the edge of the plastic deck. A dull knife does not cut wood cleanly and frays the edge, which cannot be put right afterwards. Cut with several light strokes rather than one heavy one. Once trimmed, go over the edges with the finest sanding paper and remove the dust, so that it does not settle under the varnish. Only then tone and varnish the wood.
This is an accessory, not a kit. The base Fujimi 401171 kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
