The Japanese destroyer Matsu 1:700 is an injection-molded plastic kit in the waterline version from the manufacturer Tamiya, representing the lead ship of a simplified escort class of the end of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:700 scale from the Waterline series. The model is built as a waterline kit with a flat bottom, so it stands flat like a ship afloat. It faithfully captures the simple straight shapes of the hull and the superstructure and the second funnel offset to starboard. The package contains waterslide decals and illustrated instructions.
The Matsu was the lead ship of the class of the same name of simplified escort destroyers that Japan built toward the end of the war to make up for growing losses. The design relied on flat surfaces and hard edges to save time and material. The ships carried strong anti-aircraft armament in the form of many 25mm guns.
A waterline model needs no stand. Separate the fine parts of the anti-aircraft armament carefully, glue them with liquid cement for plastic, and photo-etched railings from accessory sets raise the realism. The hull is sprayed in a shade of Japanese naval gray, and final weathering and picking out the panels add depth.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
