The Type 055 is the largest surface combatant of the PLA Navy apart from aircraft carriers, and in Western terminology it is often described as a cruiser rather than a destroyer. Its hull is strongly shaped with a view to reducing radar return, the superstructure is integrated with planar radar antennas, and the main armament consists of a universal vertical launching system divided between the bow and the stern, which handles anti-aircraft as well as anti-ship and land-attack weapons. It is complemented by a gun turret on the bow, close-in defense systems and a hangar with a landing deck for a helicopter. The units of the class bear the names of Chinese cities and serve as escorts for carrier groups as well as independent command ships; today they are a symbol of the rapid technical development of the Chinese war fleet.
In 1:700 scale what decides is clean work. First decide whether you will build it on the waterline or with the whole hull on a stand, and proceed accordingly. Separate the small antennas, barrels and cranes with a sharp scalpel and glue them with a thin drop of super glue applied with a pin. It is practical to paint the deck separately from the hull and to join them only once they are dry. Brighten the gray finish with a graded lighter coat on the upper surfaces, so that the model does not look flat at a small scale, and bring out the panel lines and the edges of the decks with a fine wash. Railings and safety nets from photo-etched parts, if you obtain them separately, will markedly raise the result. Keep the weathering restrained, as a modern warship in active service tends to be well maintained.
