The main deck of a battleship is a complex area threaded with turret bases, hatches and superstructures. It is exactly here that it tends to show on 1:700 models that the engraving of the plastic is coarser than the scale would call for. The veneer carries a fine printing of planks and looks natural when seen in a display case, because the grain of the wood is still readable under the printing. It also saves the most tedious part of the painting, that is, separating the wooden deck from the steel areas with an accurate line.
What decides is the handling of the covering film. Do not take it off whole, but fold back only a few millimeters at one edge, lay the veneer against the edge and only then draw the film off gradually and lay the area piece by piece. You then still have the chance to correct it and no air stays under the veneer. The larger parts of a long deck are better divided into two or three steps, with the position checked against the turret bases between them. Once it is all down, press the whole area evenly with a soft rubber pad.
This is an accessory for a plastic kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package.
