This item is an accessory for figures in 1:72 scale — it is not a kit of a model. It contains a casting of the American steel helmet M1, that is one of the most widespread items of equipment that appears in modeling scenes. You will use the helmet on a figure's head, hung on equipment, laid on the seat of a vehicle or loose on the base of a diorama.
The M1 helmet is in two parts: the outer steel shell has a smooth, slightly elongated shape with a turned edge, which runs all the way around and forms a low visor at the front. Inside sits a separate liner of pressed material with webbing fitting of its own, so soldiers wore either both parts together or the liner alone. The outer strap fastened under the chin, but often stayed hooked over the edge of the shell. The helmet was introduced at the beginning of the 1940s and with partial modifications served for several decades, so it is usable in scenes from a very wide period.
In 1:72 scale the part is very small, so work over a surface that will not lose anything. Separate the casting from the casting block with a sharp knife, level the surface left after the cut gently and try the fit dry. Glue resin parts with super glue — glue for plastic does not hold on them. Before painting, wash the casting in lukewarm water with a detergent. Apply as thin a layer of base coat as possible, because a thick layer would swallow the shape of the edge at this scale. A matte shade, a dark wash around the edge and a slight lightening of the crown are enough; finer shading will not be visible on such a small area anyway.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a figure. Paints, glue and further parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
