About product

Dinghy for the Bristol Beaufort Mk.I, 1:72, a CMK add-on set

This is not an airplane model but a small resin add-on set. It adds the dinghy to a Beaufort model, a piece of equipment that has its own stowage bay on the real machine and that noticeably changes the look of that part of the airframe when it is open. The exact contents of the package and the number of parts are not stated here. The set is made for 1:72 and assumes the Airfix Beaufort kit.

The real subject

The Bristol Beaufort was a British twin-engined torpedo bomber that in the Mk.I version served above all with Coastal Command. It flew over the sea, often far from the shore and at low altitude, so an inflatable dinghy was part of its standard equipment and was stowed so that the crew could release it quickly after a forced landing on the water. That is exactly why the dinghy and its stowage bay turn up on Beaufort models as a favorite subject for detailing.

Building and painting tips

Wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap first, otherwise the paint will not take. Cut them off the casting blocks with a sharp knife or a cutting disc, and support the small pieces so they do not snap. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Sand wet and protect your airways. Use a primer before painting. The set is best fitted before the airframe is closed up, so you can check how the part sits. Contrast works well in painting: keep the rubber surface of the dinghy flat and discreetly toned, leave the metal around the bay in the airframe shade, and bring out the edge of the open bay with a fine dark wash so that the detail does not get lost.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the Beaufort Mk.I in 1:72 who want to take the model beyond the state it comes in.
  • Those who like opening up service and stowage bays and showing the inside.
  • More experienced modelers used to small resin parts.
  • Competition builders, where the detail in a small scale decides it.

The set is an add-on, not an airplane model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

No. It is a small resin add-on, and you need the base Beaufort kit.

Working with small resin parts calls for a steady hand, a sharp knife and cyanoacrylate glue. It is not the ideal choice for a first model.

Yes, wash them in water with dish soap to remove mold release agent and spray them with primer. Without that, paint holds badly on resin.

Ideally before the airframe is closed up, so you can try the fit of the part and adjust the opening if you need to.
