Two pieces of vacuum-formed clear cockpit glazing for a model of the AH-1 Cobra attack helicopter in 1:72 scale, in the form with the doors open. A vacuum-formed canopy is markedly thinner than an ordinary injected part, so it looks more convincing and lets light through better. The second piece in the package is there on purpose, because the first attempt at cutting it out need not succeed. The part is formed for the Special Hobby or Revell kits.
The Bell AH-1 Cobra is a single-engine attack helicopter with a narrow fuselage and a crew seated in tandem, derived from the design of the UH-1. The G version was the first in production, and the Q and S represent later modifications with different armament and equipment. The narrow frontal section and the stepped cockpit glazing are among the most striking features of the type.
A vacuum-formed part is not cut off its backing with scissors. Trace the outline with a fine marker, sand the area around it on fine abrasive paper laid on a board and the part will separate by itself as soon as you have sanded down to the line. Work slowly and keep trying the fit on the fuselage. It is bonded with low-fume super glue or with glue for clear parts, which leaves no milky film. The easiest way to do the frames is to spray them through a mask and to protect the clear area with masking film until the end of the build.
