A masking set for a model of the Blohm und Voss BV 222 flying boat in 1:72 scale. A solution for extensive glazing that would take a whole evening to mask with tape.
Responsibility details are not available.
The BV 222, known by the name Wiking, was one of the largest flying boats of the Second World War. Six engines, a massive hull with a boat bottom and floats under the wing made it a machine that could carry cargo and people over long distances. Its very size is what makes it a modeling puzzle: even in 1:72 scale it is a large model and there is a great deal of glazing on it, both the cockpit and the windows in the hull.
The set is a masking set and is intended for a model of the BV 222 in 1:72 scale. It takes the place of the lengthy cutting of shapes out of masking tape, because the elements have their outline prepared in advance and you only have to seat them on the glass.
Wash and degrease the glazing before masking, otherwise the mask will not seat along its edge and paint will bleed underneath. Transfer the elements with tweezers, press them down with a blunt toothpick along the whole edge and fill larger open areas with tape or masking fluid. Spray in thin coats. A heavy coat applied at once does not only bleed but also tears when the mask is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, pulling at an angle toward yourself and using the tip of a blade so that the layer breaks cleanly at the edge of the frame. On a model this large it pays to work in sections rather than covering everything at once.
For modelers who are building the BV 222 in 1:72 scale and want crisp glazing frames without cutting tape by hand. Which particular kit the elements are cut for is given in the manufacturer's instructions. The set is an accessory for a kit; paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
