The Bristol Beaufighter TF.X masking set from Art Scale is a modeling accessory for the Airfix kit in 1:72 scale. The designation double-sided means that the set allows for masking the outer and the inner side of the glazing, so the framing can be painted from inside as well, which shows when looking into the cockpit.
The Bristol Beaufighter was a British twin-engine heavy fighter and attack aircraft with Bristol Hercules radial engines. The TF.X version was the torpedo and strike variant of Coastal Command: it carried a torpedo or unguided rockets under the wing and was fitted with radar, whose antenna in a fairing on the tip of the nose is one of the typical recognition features of this version. The machine had a crew of two, the pilot under a large sliding canopy and the navigator in a separate station further back. The glazing therefore consists of several separate assemblies, which draws masking out considerably without ready-made templates.
Wash and degrease the clear part so that the mask holds. Lift the parts off the carrier film with tweezers, lay them on the frame and press them down with a soft tool so that the edges seat along their whole length. On curves, a small fan-shaped nick or trimming with a sharp scalpel right on the part helps, with minimal pressure. With a double-sided set the order matters: mask and spray the inner side in the interior shade first, let the part dry and only then mask the outside and spray the base and the top color. Keep the coats thin, otherwise a ridge forms under the edge of the mask. Take the masks off as soon as the paint is dry to the touch.
