A masking set in kabuki tape for a model of the C-46A/D Commando transport aircraft, and so of the naval R5C-1 version as well, in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Curtiss C-46 Commando was a twin-engine transport aircraft with a capacious fuselage, which during the Second World War carried cargo and troops to places smaller machines could not reach. The US Navy and Marine Corps listed their examples under the designation R5C-1. The A and D versions differed in reworkings of the doors and the internal layout.
Glazing is the last thing on a model you want to repaint. Hand-cut strips of tape crinkle on curves, and a brush guided along a ruler will not hold the same width of frame along its whole length. Pre-shaped masks remove that problem: you stick them on, cover the rest and spray the frame together with the rest of the aircraft, so that it is in exactly the same shade. Kabuki tape is a fine paper with a weak adhesive, which follows curves, holds well and leaves no residue on a clear part once removed.
The masks are stuck onto a clean, degreased part, and before spraying, not after. Press the edges down thoroughly with a toothpick, so that no paint seeps under them. Spray in thin coats; a heavy coat creates a ridge at the edge that shows once the mask is removed. Take the mask off shortly after the paint has dried, not days later. The layout of the pieces is given by the manufacturer's instructions.
The kit of the model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
