A short-run injection-molded kit brings the twin-engine French transport and liaison aircraft Caudron C.446 Super Goéland in 1:72 scale. RS models reached for the variant that stands at the end of the development of the whole Goéland family and that is told from its predecessors mainly by its engines.
The Goéland family came about in the mid-1930s as a comfortable machine for short routes, air taxi work and official flights. The C.446 version received stronger Renault 12R engines of around four hundred and twenty horsepower and with them three-blade propellers; it first flew in 1943. The airframe stayed wooden, with metal skinning only on the front and upper part of the fuselage. The wing is a cantilever low wing, the main landing gear retracts into the engine nacelles and a tailwheel is added at the rear.
A twin-engine airframe stands or falls by the setting of the nacelles: try fitting them dry and only then fix them, so that both wings carry their propellers in the same plane. The glazing of the passenger cabin is extensive and it is worth masking pane by pane. A wooden structure with fabric is nicely brought out by a fine filter and subdued panel work; a sharp dark line would look hard on this subject.
The goods are unassembled and unpainted; you obtain the paints and glue separately.
