This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter represents the British Challenger II main battle tank in the Iraq War version. Compared with the standard release, this package captures the desert combat configuration with add-on armor and the matching markings. The kit has several sprues of plastic parts, a decal sheet and flexible (vinyl) tracks for a quick build of the running gear.
The Challenger II is the main battle tank of the British army, armed with a 120 mm rifled gun and protected by Chobham composite armor. During the operations in Iraq, particularly around Basra, the tanks fitted add-on side and frontal armor that raised their protection against rocket-propelled grenades and improvised charges. The Challenger II proved itself in that fighting as an exceptionally tough machine.
Assemble and paint the lower hull and the running gear before you fit the vinyl tracks and the add-on armor panels. Test the vinyl tracks dry and roughen them for better adhesion. Apply a primer, then a desert sand shade; lighten the transitions with a drybrush. Pull the panel lines and the add-on armor out with a wash, highlight the edges and finish the underside and the running gear with dust pigments for an authentic desert look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
