F-102 Delta Dagger 1:72 - bay masking set, Hasegawa protects the inner landing gear surfaces of this delta-winged interceptor.
Responsibility details are not available.
It is used on an already assembled airframe, not instead of one. It covers the landing gear openings so that the light interior never meets the external shade, and it saves you the most unpleasant part of the touch-up work on the underside. The shapes are taken from the 1:72 Hasegawa kit, so owners of another maker's plastic need a differently cut set.
The Convair F-102 was the first production delta-wing aircraft of the US Air Force and at the same time the first fighter conceived from the outset as part of a system rather than as a stand-alone machine. Its onboard radar and fire-control system worked with the ground network, and the armament consisted of guided missiles hidden in a fuselage weapons bay so that they would not spoil the aerodynamics. The prototype, however, refused to go through the speed of sound until the designers reworked the fuselage according to the area rule into its characteristic wasp-waisted shape. Only that change turned it into a usable interceptor.
On this type the inside of the bays is usually much lighter than the outside, so it is best to spray it first and let it dry through. Apply the external shade at lower pressure and in several passes so that the paint is not forced into the gaps around the edges.
